Fort Wayne FC has added Venton Evans, a Jamaican attacker, to the roster in advance of Wednesday’s 6 p.m. match against West Virginia United in Charleston, West Virginia.
Evans, 26, has experience playing on the Jamaican National team – from the U-17 to the Senior levels – and suited up for the Senior team in 2022 for a friendly against Qatar.
“He’s a rapid individual,” Fort Wayne FC coach Mike Avery said. “He gets behind and stretches defenses, and he scores goals. He’s an exciting addition.”
While a free agent since 2024, Evans has continued to train with players from various levels including Major League Soccer and USL Championship. His résumé includes 41 matches with the Greenville Triumph SC of USL League One between 2022 and 2023, during which he totaled six goals and three assists.
In 2021, he played for Fort Lauderdale CF of USL League One and accrued four goals and two assists in 21 matches.
Evans, a native of Kingston, Jamaica, turned professional at age 18 and played for Portmore United FC, one of the nation’s top clubs. He played 64 matches, scoring three goals with two assists, and helped the club to two Jamaican League titles and a Caribbean Club Championship.
Fort Wayne FC is off to a 3-0-1 start to the USL League Two seasons, and is coming off a 3-1 come-from-behind victory over Kings Hammer FC Cincinnati. West Virginia United is 1-1-0.
Fort Wayne FC, which won the Valley Division in 2023 and 2024, is tied atop the division table with Lexington SC. Fort Wayne FC’s next home match at Bishop D’Arcy Stadium will be 7 p.m. Saturday against the Dayton Dutch Lions.
Next season, Fort Wayne FC will join USL League One in a new state-of-the-art, soccer-specific stadium being built at Bass Road and I-69.
