Bishop Dwenger graduate, 2 Gardner-Webb standouts bring club’s roster to 11
The Fort Wayne FC roster continues to take shape as the club announced today it has brought back goalkeeper David Anderson, a graduate of Bishop Dwenger High School, and added Gardner-Webb University players Leo Andrade and Tiago Campos.
Single-match tickets are now on sale for the Fort Wayne FC season, which begins May 11 at Bishop D’Arcy Stadium on the University of Saint Francis campus. Fort Wayne FC is pursuing a third consecutive championship in USL League Two’s Valley Division before moving to the pro ranks of USL League One in 2026, when the club will open a new state-of-the-art, soccer-specific stadium at Bass Road and I-69.
Anderson, 18, spent last season with Fort Wayne FC before beginning his collegiate career at New York’s St. John’s University. He is the third player from Northeast Indiana on this season’s Fort Wayne FC roster, joining defender Reid Sproat and attacker Namik Mehic.
Anderson is the second goalkeeper on the roster, alongside Aurie Briscoe. All roster additions are pending league and federation approval.
“David is a very talented young goalkeeper who helps us maintain the local connections that are part of our club philosophy,” Fort Wayne FC head coach Mike Avery said. “David was with us last summer as a recent high school graduate, and it was exciting for us to watch his growth in just the few short months of the USL League Two season. He has now been away at St. John’s University – a top college program from one of the top college soccer conferences in the country, the Big East – and we are very eager to see how his development has continued since last summer.”
At Bishop Dwenger, Anderson logged 29 shutouts in 55 career games and was a two-time First Team selection in the Summit Athletic Conference. He was a captain of the Saints and a salutatorian before graduating in 2024.
“David has a lot of potential and his willingness to seek out challenging environments in order to grow as a player is paying off for him,” Avery said.
Andrade, a 23-year-old defender from São Paulo, Brazil, played 19 games last season for Gardner-Webb, which is in Boiling Springs, North Carolina. He scored four goals, including one in a 2-1 victory over High Point that propelled the Running’ Bulldogs to their first Big South Conference championship and a berth in the NCAA Division I Men’s Soccer Championship tournament, in which they reached the second round.
Andrade was a First Team All-Conference selection.
“Leo is a tremendous addition to our team, as we look to make our last season in USL League Two our best one yet,” Avery said. “Leo is a Brazilian central defender with obvious professional potential. Leo is tough but composed, defends and attacks with passion, and is a leader who rallies the team around him. His Gardner-Webb University team had a historic season last fall, and as you watch through the matches you see the influence that Leo had on their success.”
Campos, a 19-year-old midfielder from São Paulo, played in 20 games last season for Gardner-Webb and assisted on three goals. One of those assists came in the opening round of the NCAA Championship, a 1-0 victory over Oregon State in Corvallis, Oregon.
“Tiago Campos is a bright and energetic midfielder who combines high-level technique, game awareness, and work rate to create a well-rounded player who is a tremendous addition to our FWFC squad,” Avery said. “Tiago was a key player for Gardner-Webb last season, and his consistency and willingness to do the little things that allow a team to be successful did not go unnoticed.”
Campos’ father, Sylvinho, played at soccer’s highest levels with teams such as Arsenal, Barcelona and Manchester City, and he currently coaches Albania’s national team.
“Football is in Tiago’s blood, and you can see it when he plays,” Avery said. “It will be a lot of fun to work with Tiago as he continues to make his own way in the game.”
The Fort Wayne FC roster is now up to 11 players.
